Delphi Archaeological Museum

The Delphi Archaeological Museum is one of the highest ranked museums of Greece and one of the most popular museums visited by viewers all over the world. It exhibits the history of the Delphic sanctuary, site of the most famous ancient Greek oracle.

The Museum shelters the extensive artifacts unearthed during excavations at the Delphi oracle and its vicinity. It is located adjacent to the archaeological site, and it is one of the top “must-see” museums in Greece, mainly because of the breadth and quality of artifacts it includes, which date from the Mycenean period (600 – 1100 BC) to the decline of the Oracle in the Late Antiquity period and the early Byzantine era.

Its rich collections are comprised primarily of architectural sculpture, statues and minor objects donated to the sanctuary. These reflect its religious, political and artistic activities. They allow us to study the initial phases of Greek Art, how it is formed, what influences it receives and how it evolves afterwards. All this within a well-known historical context documented by Ancient Greek and Roman authors for an extremely wide period of time.

Founded in 1903, the Museum has been rearranged several times, and today is housed in a contemporary two-storey building with a total surface area of 2.270 square metres, with fourteen exhibition rooms.
